Speaker Bio:
Bill is a Northern Nevada native but became an Oregonian while attending Oregon State University. He received his bachelors and masters degrees in Crop Science from OSU, but mixed in a lot of computer science classes. After working several years for the State of Oregon in computer networking and information security, he has been SAIF Corporation’s information security engineer/supervisor since 2013. He met and married his wife while at OSU and has two daughters. He enjoys activities with his family, photography, cycling, history, and helping people stay secure online.
Presentation Description:
This highly-interactive, 30-45 minute presentation introduces the concept of social engineering in general and focuses on one of its popular electronic forms: phishing. The purpose of the presentation is to help participants recognize and stop attempts to trick them into giving up information, finances, and identity in both their professional and personal lives. Most of the time is spent going over examples of legitimate and fake (phish) emails and web pages in a quiz format. Participants learn how to spot a phish by focusing on important details.
